SPATS Course Concept and Objectives

CONCEPT:

The immediate and follow-up care for the competitive injured athlete demands the undivided attention of the Sports Medicine Team: the team physician, physical therapist, chiropractor, athletic trainer, and coach. SPATS provides a relaxed educational forum for all members of the Sports Medicine Team to discuss problems and concepts relating to prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation/reconditioning of all levels of competitive injured athletes. The Sports Medicine Team will apply the latest techniques and procedures used to evaluate and treat common and uncommon athletic injuries in variety of diverse settings.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Determine the appropriate treatment, rehabilitation and/or reconditioning strategies necessary.

2. Develop and execute a comprehensive rehabilitation regime including but not limited to the prevention of injury by utilizing effective conditioning; insuring proper rehabilitation techniques; and the instruction of the use of protective equipment as needed.

3. Professional collaboration and cooperation with other healthcare providers involved in a patient’s care.
